He is a medico who left his MS half way to join his father to serve in the dense forests of Abhujmad, 42 years ago. The project transformed into three: a hospital(Lok Biradari Prakalp Davakhana), a residential school (Lok Biradari Prakalp Ashram Shala) and an orphanage for injured wild animals (the Amte’s Animal Ark). He heads a rare informal court where the adivasis from far away come out of love and trust that justice will be granted.Today not only did the government of India laud him with the Padmashree for his medical services and Venu Menon Award for wildlife conservation but received international fame by receiving the Ramon Magsaysay Award. He continues to serve the primitive tribe-Madia-gonds with dedication and determination.
